Your data and privacy
The privacy notice says what personal information we hold, why, who we share it with and your rights. This page shows where to do the common things.
Your searches
We don’t keep a history of what you search for. To stop too many searches coming from one connection, we count them using a code made from your connection’s address, and delete it after 2 days. The privacy notice has the details.
Example
You search for a colleague’s name. We count it as one search, and don’t keep the words you typed.
Cookies
We use only cookies that are needed for the site to work, such as keeping you signed in, so there’s no cookie banner. If you choose a light or dark theme, we keep that choice in a cookie too. See Cookies in the privacy notice.
Example
Choose Dark at the bottom of any page. The site remembers it in this browser, and “Match my device” forgets it.
Download your information
Signed in, go to Settings and choose “Download your information”. You get a file of what your account holds: your profile, folders, saved items and notes, the comments and assignments you wrote or were given in shared folders, the organisations you follow, and your watched phrases.
Example
Download your information before you close your account, to keep a copy of your folders and notes.
Close your account
Go to Settings and choose to close your account. You have 30 days to change your mind, then it is deleted. We keep billing records for as long as tax law requires.
Example
You close your account on 1 March. Until 31 March, signing in lets you keep it.
If you’re named in a document
Board papers and coroners’ reports sometimes name people. If you’re named and want us to remove or correct something, or want a copy of what we hold about you, use the contact form and choose “Personal information about me”. We reply within one month. The privacy notice explains how we handle people named in board papers.
Example
Your name and home address appear in a set of board papers. Ask us through the contact form, saying which document and page. We look at it and reply within one month.
Mistakes in a document
If we’ve got something wrong, such as a date, an organisation, or text read badly from a scan, tell us and we’ll look into it.
Example
A meeting date shows as 2062 because a scan was misread. Report it with the document’s address, and we check it against the original.
